Versant Corporation is pleased to announce a new addition to its Versant Object Database (VOD) product portfolio. VOD .NET is a dedicated object database system for the popular Microsoft .NET software development environment that assists application developers in creating data driven high performance applications for Windows, including Browser Based and Rich Internet Applications. VOD .NET significantly increases the developer agility when implementing complex, object oriented data models while achieving in many cases at least 10 times the performance and scalability over traditional relational databases.

ODBMS.ORG, a vendor-independent, not-for-profit educational program on object database technology, has announced a thrilling project: They want to gather common persistent model patterns.
Prof. Roberto Zicari posted a call for submissions in his blog stating:
“It is common practice that some database designers treat an Object Database (ODB) like a Relational Database (RDB). That is they are very query intensive rather than model intensive in their design. Some designers start with a ‘relational’ model, and then adjust it to a model that is more ‘ODB-oriented’, or closer to their problem domain, in order to get better results. This task is difficult.”
So we thought you might be interested in submitting your favorite persistent model pattern to ODBMS.ORG. Your submission is welcome and it could become an important resource for the object database community. By the way: The pattern with the highest votes will receive special awards!!
As mentioned before Versant has turned 20 in November 2008. So, in addition to our special edition of the Versant Videscope Magazine, we have asked Robert Greene to outline how it all started off in the early/mid 1980’s.
The new Versant Videscope Magazine has been mailed out to our subscriber base last week!
