As mentioned before Versant has turned 20 in November 2008. So, in addition to our special edition of the Versant Videscope Magazine, we have asked Robert Greene to outline how it all started off in the early/mid 1980’s.

Users of the Versant Object Database have one thing in common: Their great demands on performance. Therefore, we have carried out extensive studies and tests in the Versant Lab on the question of how we can optimize queries. The true power of a database is demonstrated in its handling of queries.

The Service Release 4 of the Versant Object Database 7.0.1. has been launched with a multitude of enhancements for improved performance and scalability.Among other, we have introduced dramatic latch performance improvements. Now, Lab tests with real-life customer applications have shown dramatic performance improvements.
